Description

"A Sweet Woman" is neither a short story nor notes. Imagine a husband whose wife has committed suicide and is now lying on the table. Just a few hours ago, she had fallen from the window. The husband is bewildered and hasn't yet managed to organize his thoughts. He walks through the rooms, struggling to understand what happened, "to gather his thoughts."
Moreover, he is an arteriosclerotic hypochondriac type, one of those who monologue and talk to themselves. So, talking to himself, he narrates how things happened, explaining them to understand them himself. Despite the apparent consistency of what he says, he finds himself contradicting himself several times, both in logic and emotions. On one hand, he justifies himself, and on the other, he blames himself and starts other, off-topic explanations. In all this, one can see this hardness of thought and heart, as well as a deep tenderness. Little by little, he really manages to explain things to himself and gather his thoughts. A series of memories eventually brings him inevitably to the truth: the truth irresistibly elevates his mind and heart.
