Description

The starting point and focus of this book is the historical-philological work of Dimitris Chatzis. It attempts to study it through its dialogue with the complex intellectual field of the post-war Left, with the axis being the interplay of history and literature, culture and politics. As Chatzis clearly differentiated himself from established positions of left-wing criticism, the book follows the course of the renewing left-wing critical discourse and explores its genealogy, variety, and scope, starting from the interwar period but mainly focusing on the fields of the Greek pre-dictatorship Left, political exile in Eastern Europe, and the post-dictatorship era. Within this framework, Chatzis' intervention and contribution in the shared struggle with other left-wing intellectuals of his generation are highlighted: on the one hand, to liberate themselves from old dependencies and dogma, and on the other hand, to find a new form of responsibility, collectivity, and creative self-commitment towards common goals.
