The first days of the Occupation begin! Unprecedented images and snapshots appear for the Athenians. The great famine, the absolute degradation of human dignity by the occupying forces, the terrorism and deprivation of freedom led the Athenians to ingenious methods of survival.

What did the Greeks eat during the Occupation period?

From April 1941 to October 1944, Greece is under German occupation and experiences degradation, terrorism, annihilation, while thousands of citizens die, literally, from starvation, due to looting and the black market!

How did the Athenians survive with such food shortages?

The survival recipes adorned the daily press of the Occupation and were collected from the newspapers Athenaïka Nea, Vradynï, and Kathimerinï.
