No matter what they say, from its first leaps (so incendiary, after all), surrealism aligned itself on the side of rebellion, insisting, in many and varied cases, that it is not so much another literary or artistic movement as a systematic attempt to redefine life itself, the purpose of life - ultimately, a subversive movement that sought to oppose capitalism and, later, to connect with Marxism.
