In contrast to the relationship between education and traditional media in previous eras, the dominance of television and other image-based media, ultimately of virtual ideology, contributes to the ongoing visualisation of education today. Images, photographs, diagrams, etc. are gaining an increasingly prominent presence in textbooks, there is a shift towards thematic units and an expansion of students' choice, television competes with schools and society in learning social roles, computers and the internet, along with educational television, play a central role in school learning, while education in media constantly expands in modern educational systems.
This phenomenon is not so much a product of fashion or synchronization with technology, as it is a result of the emergence of a society in which consumerism, individualization, cultural differentiation, aesthetic qualities, etc. become central elements of economic and social life at national and global levels.
