Description

Of course, this is the theme of Paco Yunque. Paco Yunque, a village boy, goes to school for the first time. His mother works as a maid in the mansion of the local magnate Dorian Griv, the English director of the Peruvian Corporation railways. Paco is sent to school mainly to accompany and entertain Umberto, the son of the Grivs. Umberto humiliates, mistreats, and abuses Paco, the little servant of the little master. The master-servant relationship, which had been formed in the Griv mansion, is transferred intact to the school class, that is, "outside in society". How will the teacher, the other children, and Paco himself react?

"Paco Yunque": A peculiar "children's tale" written in 1931, by order of the publisher of a magazine for children and adolescents in Madrid, by the leading Peruvian poet Cesar Vallejo (1892-1938), one of the most important innovators of poetic language in the 20th century. Very "sad for children," according to his aspiring publisher, it was finally published in Peru in 1951.
Today, this rather timely "old" masterpiece - minimalist inspiration and concise writing - is included in Peru's school books, causing occasional controversies from both the right and the left due to its naked realism, pessimism, and hopeless nature, as they say.
