[...] With these goals in mind, we present in this book four texts that attempt an analytical approach to the illustrative and artistic work of the modern Greek creator. The three of these texts are processed forms of presentations at recent conferences and seminars on Fotis Kontoglou, while one of them was written as an introductory note to a future edition of portable images of his that are located in the Holy Monastery of Agioi Anargyroi Parnonas.
In these texts, Kontoglou's illustrative work is analyzed from a painting, rather than an illustrative, perspective. Thus, we are not so concerned with the solutions he applies in terms of illustrative types, nor their origin. We are mainly interested in the artistic treatment of form; how the rendering of the artistic forms of the depicted saints and events is achieved through colors, shapes, and compositional solutions.
