Description

A study of the aspects of the revised relationship between space and memory - concepts interconnected in all expressions of speech and experience. Art, philosophy, literature, the formation of collective memory and its local formation, monuments and contemporary reconstructions of memory are among the topics analyzed by the authors.

If memory and remembrance constitute the unifying field of the multiple dimensions of human beings with social space-time, then their encounter with architectural and urban design as a significant factor of this space-time constitutes a particularly sensitive pivotal issue in the broader area of theory and practice of design. From memory to its trace in the materiality of space and the possibility, through the latter, of activating memory and multiple recollections, issues of critical approach to contemporary architectural and urban space unfold. Issues that depend directly on our way of referring to the past, with a nostalgic or critical and reflective disposition for its reconstitution.

With an interdisciplinary approach, the authors of the volume contribute to the dialogue about the relationship between memory, space, and design in the perspective of unfolding human beings in multiple space-time fields. The past, present, and future are intertwined in a way that creatively reconstructs the collective as a precondition for the expression of the individual and the fulfillment of human coexistence.
