Description

A historical novel full of twists and turns, set over three centuries, from 1685 to 1920, and based on real events. The story of a family and a nation, where love and war, passions and revenge prevail.

It is the story of a warrior family, who came from Epirus with the army of Morozini in 1685, settled in Spetses, fought relentlessly against the conquerors throughout the Ottoman rule, and played a leading role in the Eikosiena epic, on land and at sea. When this family became involved in the assassination of Bouboulina, its descendants emigrated due to vendetta to Laconia, where they became powerful landowners with adventurous lives and great passions.

At the same time, the book follows the major events of Greek history, often in an unconventional way. The reader will travel with Francesco Morozini on his legendary campaign against the Turks in Greece in 1685 and will discover that he was not only responsible for the destruction of the Parthenon, but also the leader who wanted to overthrow the Ottoman Empire and revive the Roman Empire. They will follow the great vizier Ali Kioumourtzis in the conquest of an unrecognizable Peloponnese in 1715, learn the horrifying details of the Orlov Revolt in 1770, and travel with Greek pirates in the Mediterranean in the 18th century. They will gain an understanding of the Fall of Tripolitsa in September 1821 and learn about the unknown incident of the humiliation of Dramali in Aghionori. By reading the gripping dialogue between the spy Krantok and his young interpreter Codrington, they will realize how little we actually know about what was at stake in the Battle of Navarino. They will also learn that the Crimean War was a second Greek Revolution that failed because the Great Powers did not want the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire.

The author researched family and state archives, foreign and Greek sources, unpublished documents and memoirs, spoke with dozens of people throughout Greece, examined evidence and artifacts. From all this, a true and therefore captivating novel was born.
