Description
Sixty years after the outbreak of the Greek Civil War, scientific research on the subject has intensified and systematized. The passage of time from the dramatic events, the availability of new archival material to researchers, and the assistance of related scientific fields in this specific issue have been the main causes of the above development. In this study, experts from Greece and abroad analyze the main components that led to the civil conflict, record its internal, Balkan, and international dimensions, and evaluate its significance. At the same time, they describe the current achievements of scientific research, while mapping the areas that require further investigation.
The present volume is derived from the proceedings of an international scientific conference organized on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the start of the Greek Civil War by the Department of Modern and Contemporary History and Folklore of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in collaboration with the Hersonissos Peninsula Studies Foundation (IMXA), in Thessaloniki, from May 12th to May 14th, 2006.
The texts included are:
- Vasilios Kontis, "Milestones in the Evolution of the Civil War"
- Elias Nikolakopoulos, "Rereading the Shape of the Civil War, as Formulated by Filippos Iliou"
