This volume consists of three essays that fall within the broader field of political communication.

The first one records the advertising expenditure of Greek political parties during the period 1985-2005, both by party and advertising medium, as well as overall. Of course, the overall figures are particularly significant (€7.2 billion in 2005 for the same period, 1985-2005), but a more detailed study of the relevant expenses will reward the reader.

The second one, on the 2003 Presidential Elections in Cyprus, examines the strategies and tactics of the main candidates of these elections, with an emphasis on television advertising.

The third one, on the 2002 municipal elections in Athens, depicts the pre-election "battle" of the two main candidates.

These essays clearly indicate that politics (and political communication) gradually but steadily adapts to the "environment" of the mass media. The dominant logic of today's mass media - the commercial logic - is directly related to the increase in the number and volume of entertainment television programs and the expansion of the influence of quantification, through, for example, opinion polls, crystallizing a structural change in the broader field of political practice.
