A specter haunts the postmodern twilight of history: the withdrawal of the political. Undoubtedly, the dark star of management reigns in the firmament of globalized markets, while social reality is transfused into downward tubes as a television show.

Rejecting this spectrophotographic diagnosis, Alain Badiou proposes the liberation of politics from the transcendental guarantee of History and the sociological objectification of classes. With a radical theoretical gesture, he extracts local politics from the preoccupied reality and attaches it to what he calls the "eventful space". The event, from which the possibility of politics arises, "does not belong to the order of reality". The withdrawal of the political does not signify the end of politics. Activating a Lacanian distinction, dear to A. Badiou, we will conclude, on the contrary, that the withdrawal of the political shapes the conditions for the emergence of the ruptured local reality in the form of the event, where the possibility of political emancipation takes root.
