Description

The Russian philosopher in this work of apologetic character attempts to provide an answer to the critics of Christianity who base their dismissal of the truth of the Gospel on the historical errors of the clergy and the Christian establishment. However, the values and ideals of Christianity are infinitely more difficult to realize than any system of values, as the author observes, every Christian is called to bear his own cross of martyrdom without protest, to love his enemies, and to resist the temptations of the world. Therefore, the criteria for consistency or inconsistency in the teaching of the God-Man are inherently much stricter than those applicable to other (non-revelatory) religions. The course of the Church in history can easily be exposed and subject to criticism because people tend to judge external events. On the contrary, the internal and sanctifying spiritual life of the Church, the conversion to God, the spiritual struggles, and the journey towards holiness are unfortunately not perceived by the malicious critics of Christianity. The eloquent way of thinking of the Russian philosopher leads the reader to the deeper meaning, the true essence of Christianity, free from the historical rationalism of the West.
