The Konstantinos K. Mitsotakis Foundation, now in its fifth year of operation, took the initiative to organize a scientific conference on the topic "The elections of 1946: A milestone in the political history of modern Greece", which took place on November 9th and 10th, 2006 in Athens. The Scientific Committee of the event consisted of Konstantinos Svolopoulos, Elias Nikolakopoulos, and Gregory Psallida.

Announcements were made by twenty professors and researchers in modern and contemporary history and political science from the Universities of Athens, Thessaloniki, Panteion, Ioannina, Macedonia, Ionian, and Aegean, as well as other scientific research centers and institutions. The presentations and ensuing dialogue comprehensively addressed the issues related to the March 1946 elections, the first post-war parliamentary elections in Greece, placing them in the historical, political, and socio-economic context of this complex and crucial period of our history, which led Greece into a civil war.
