Description

And if Marine Le Pen - who in the book is called Mireig Lefek - is elected president of the French Republic? What does the electoral victory of the Right Wing mean for the country?

In this thrilling political fiction novel, Karim Amelal replaces the red of the French flag with black and describes with acuity a nightmarish scenario that unfortunately does not seem unlikely.

The narrator is a Frenchman of Algerian descent. However, he is not a caricature of the inhabitants of the underprivileged suburbs. He lives in the heart of Paris, has had a brilliant education, and works as a senior and highly paid executive in the financial sector. He lives with the woman he loves; he is successful. And suddenly, everything is turned upside down. The peaceful illusions (Le Pen will not be elected; but even if she is, she will not implement her program; but even if she does, the consequences will not be serious) collapse. The new president systematically implements her program: "national restoration" is put into effect. A blatantly racist regime is established, exercising brutal repression and not hesitating to send tanks to the suburbs. From a world full of shades, we fall into a suffocating Manichaeism. Some bow their heads, surrender. Others, especially those on the margins of society, on its outskirts, organize resistance. As for the narrator, he hesitates. He is troubled, wondering who he is, what relationship he has with what they tell him he is. In the end, he makes his decision: "Today I am alive; tomorrow I may be dead, but I will no longer be alone. Long live Democracy, long live France!"
