Description
"The Politicus" by Plato is a methodological dialogue. With the aim of defining the political and politics, determining its relationship with the law, as well as distinguishing the different forms of government, Plato shows us a way to think. In the "Politucus," the term political science is mentioned for the first time: politics, considered as knowledge (science), is a way to think and act autonomously. Only our own free, self-determined thinking and criticism provide us with the ability to control the relevance of our beliefs to the world and to pursue knowledge. This is also the difference between rational self-determination and the arbitrariness of self-confirmation. Only in this way do we have reason to continue to have beliefs, and of course, we have a reason and obligation to justify these beliefs. Reason, argumentation, must be followed in politics as well as in the individual sphere as legislators and judges of our beliefs. Plato's "Politucus" is a laborious and continuous exercise in the autonomy of thought and further in the autonomy of action.
