Good game but not my style as it turned out.
Obviously, I won't give it less than 5 stars because it is very well-made game, you can play for many hours, and it's worth the money.
Its battle is like an mmorpg, meaning it attacks automatically and you only press the skill buttons with x y b a.
Very beautiful world from what I've seen so far, I would recommend avoiding the same level as you until you have a full party because you will easily fall, it has many dialogues and long cutscenes to the point where I found myself losing interest a bit.
In no way is it Zelda if someone gets confused, I still don't know if I would classify it as an RPG, it resembles more of an MMO.
In short, if someone likes MMOs, anime graphics, doesn't mind dialogues, and knows English above average since it has a lot of speeches and is looking for something that will take them a month or more to finish if played within reasonable limits, then they can proceed comfortably. If you're expecting an RPG like Skyrim or an action adventure like Zelda BOTW, don't proceed. If you're expecting a mature game like Red Dead Redemption, don't proceed. If you get bored of dialogues or don't know much English, again, don't proceed.
Update. After encouragement from a friend, I continue playing and I can say that I am now hooked and want to progress to see how the story unfolds. I feel like I have bonded with all the characters and most importantly, I now find the cutscenes interesting, so we conclude that it takes its time, at least for me, it worked this way. After chapter 4 and the first battle with the two villains, the real game begins.
Very good game with a lot of action and many customizations, reaching the level of Tales of Vesperia/Berseria. 4 stars because it had issues with the maps, losing quests and having to enter the quests again to mark them
It's my first JRPG (I've also played Zelda BoTW but I don't know if it counts), so I won't speak comparatively. However, I will say that in my humble opinion, the word that best describes the game is "EPIC". Its only issue is the slightly complex battle system, which at first required me to watch some tutorials on YouTube to understand what was going on. But at some point (around 20 hours in), it clicked and I can truly say it's possibly the best I've tried. The story is fantastic, the characters are interesting, and the voice acting is excellent. Honestly, I can't find any flaws. If I had to nitpick, it would be the overly sexualized portrayal of female characters. Maybe it wasn't necessary, or maybe I'm just not used to it. Of course, I got used to it after a while. I put in over 200 hours and enjoyed every minute. I also downloaded the DLC, which I recommend because it introduces some great additional characters. I can't wait for the sequel.
I don't think anyone would expect my review to buy this game. Nevertheless, there are some things that those who are not familiar with jrpgs should know:
The game has many cutscenes and dialogues. It has a lot of grinding for those who want to do everything, the duration of the main story is about 60 hours (considering that you will also do side quests, not skip cutscenes, etc.), but to get everything + the postgame it reaches 300 and something hours.
The combat is somewhat automatic and is what I call "back-loaded". That is, the important thing is how you configure your party, accessories, cores, etc., while the execution is not very demanding, not very mathematical in this area. So the combat is based on blades, which are "pokemon-like", meaning you collect them by opening core crystals and each one has its own abilities, weapon, dialogues, quests, etc., I really liked that.
Finally, the graphics are a bit disappointing, especially when compared to BotW, which were released at the same time, but it has many models, perfect voice acting, etc.
Anyone who is a fan of RPG/JRPG games and is still considering whether to buy it, should do so with their eyes closed! After (currently) 75 hours of gameplay, it has become my favorite JRPG. The world is fantastic with my favorite visuals, the characters and antagonists are very good both in design and backstory. The story is incredible and very good at evoking emotions. The battle system is fantastic, as long as you dedicate time to understand it, as it may seem overwhelming at first and you may not understand it. Also, the music is, in a few words, the best I have heard in a game and I listen to it even outside of the game. Finally, it is worth the money and more, as besides the main story that lasts about 60 hours, for completionists it can stretch to 300+ hours. A must-have for JRPG fans and more!
P.S. The only observation I can think of is that it resembles more anime in its setup, which will appeal to anime fans or may hold back the rest of the world (obviously, I recommend even to those who do not watch anime to get the game)
Perhaps one of the best JRPGs of the last decade and by far the best for the Switch. The main game will take you somewhere around 60-70 hours of gameplay, and if you want to unlock everything in the game, then be prepared to easily dedicate 300+ hours. Awesome story with plenty of plot twists, and lots of anime elements (I would recommend playing it with Japanese dialogue). The graphics are very good in docked mode, a bit diminished in handheld mode, but personally, it didn't bother me. If you are satisfied with the main game, I would suggest getting the DLC for the expansion, even though it's more like a prequel than a continuation of the main story, it still offers some great content. Especially now that XC: Definitive Edition is coming out, I believe these are two games that no Switch owner who enjoys JRPGs should miss out on.
Guys, this game is perfect. I got the collector's edition with the artbook and it's just fantastic. Among the few games that will make you enjoy doing sidequests and leveling up even if you don't need to. The graphics on the TV are very good, but a bit blurry in handheld mode. The story is simply perfect and the gameplay is very interesting in terms of how you do combos and more. There is also an expansion that you can download for free to add Japanese voices, which personally I believe are much better than the English ones. You can play it even if you haven't played the first one, it just has a little something at the end that connects it to the first one
Simply one of the most beautiful jrpgs I have played. It takes some time to get used to its controls and unique mechanics, but once you do, you can easily spend 100 hours playing without even realizing it. Despite having some clichés that we encounter elsewhere, the story manages to pull you in and you become attached to all the characters, who are well-written and have great character development! In short, it is simply worth its money and more
A title that is worth its money and more!! After Zelda BOTW, it's the game that I spent over 200 hours on and I continue to play.
The battle system is very original and not boring at all. The enemies are always visible and it gives you the choice to confront them. There are endless side quests with Merc missions, Side Quests, etc. The character and Blade upgrades are many and varied depending on your preferences.
I haven't said this in years, since the times of Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana. I think Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the best 3D RPG I have played. Not only does it deserve it, but it exceeds its money's worth!!!
Excessive dose of shounen anime both in terms of graphics and cast, as well as in the story. A typical main character who is reckless and daring, emotionally detached from anyone he meets along his journey, and who always has a "hidden power" that awakens within him when things get tough, a villain who wants to destroy the world for no reason, and a wifu (of course) who screams and cries every time Rex (the main character) gets hurt. Personally, I'm tired of these scenarios, but if you still enjoy this type of shonen anime, then it's good for you.
The open world offered by the game is largely unnecessary, as the most important element of the game, the Blades, come through an RNG system, which is based on crystals that you easily obtain through the story and game progress. A frustrating and overall bad system for me, as it undermines the element of exploration, which is crucial for an open world game. I would prefer to have some achievement to obtain the Blades or at least the Rare Blades, which are the strongest, rather than crossing my fingers every time I open crystals and hoping not to get a duplicate. The ability to dress up your character is also missing from the game.
Let's move on to the only positive thing I found, and that is the battle system. A different and enjoyable but challenging system that rewards you if you learn it. You can reach halfway through the game and still have tutorials teaching you new things. I would recommend watching a video or review of the game to get an idea, as it's not a system that will appeal to everyone.
Overall, the game is mediocre. I'm a big fan of RPGs, and I believe that besides the battle system, the other two most important elements that a game in this category should have are missing from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. There is an excessive tendency towards childish anime in terms of the story and characters, and zero challenge for exploration or achievements.
After 80 hours of gameplay, I decided to write a review. I have no words, the game is simply a masterpiece in all its aspects, in graphics, in story, in music, the game is just outstanding. I can even go as far as comparing it to Zelda, and I can also say that in some things I liked it even more... Bravo to its creators, the only thing I wonder is why I didn't get it when it first came out and waited so long!!!!! Buy it blindly.
I decided to write a review to get more people excited to play the game without going into chilling details. The creator and his wife, who initially created Monolith, have created the epic Xenogears on PS1 and Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii. I'm leaving out the Wii U. The battle is a bit slow and torturous and, like many JRPGs, it requires a lot of knowledge and complexity for no reason. The game world is fresh and captivating... The main character, although young, thankfully behaves like an adult... The party characters are very nice... The enemies, you see them throughout the story and I always like that... like Final Fantasy VI with Kefka, for example... it looks a bit like an anime, which I personally really like... it has strict characters... funny characters for comic relief... nice blades... and awesome plot twists in the story, just like in the previous epics. The game definitely has over 16 hours, maybe even beloved cutscenes, and even after completion, it has twists. The main reason I'm writing a review is to tell interested people not to pay attention to the tiresome battle and to know that the story evolves and changes, surprises and impresses even after 100 hours of gameplay. Having played and finished Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Zelda BOTW, I am fully satisfied with the Switch, even if I only played these two games... of course, I wouldn't say no to any Metroid... those of you who are fans of anime are forbidden to play it in English!!! Download the Japanese version for free with amazing voices like Jin, voiced by Takahiro Sakurai, the actor of Cloud Strife from FFVII Advent Children, Reigen from Mob Psycho 100, etc. 6/10 for the battle system, 8 for the world, 17/10 for the story. Anyone who loves JRPGs and doesn't play it has missed out... -must buy.
After 35 hours of gameplay, I think I can express my opinion.
The game absorbs you in its beautiful and vast world, you forget about everything, you are there and have a great time exploring, fighting, advancing the story, doing side quests, etc.
The game's music is impeccable, both in cutscenes and in the overworld. Its story is quite emotional and meaningful, with wonderful facial expressions. Of course, there are also funny scenes because the game contains anime elements. You can also download the Japanese voice pack for free from the e-shop to change the voice over. Personally, I use the Japanese voice over, I think it is more "powerful".
For me, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 took first place.
Amazing game from the best of 2017 and possibly of its genre in recent years, the graphics and the world on the television are stunning, the gameplay is peculiar, and the anime aesthetic may be off-putting at first. Before purchasing, watch a gameplay video because it may not appeal to everyone, as it is not an action RPG!!
So far it looks perfect... It has amazing graphics and music!!! The gameplay is excellent!
It's worth its money.
Edit: I finished it... Top-notch!!! I don't need to say much... Amazing game!!!
