The writing of a book is certainly a challenge! A challenge that hides anxieties, prospects, and a journey. For the university professor, it is also a minimal duty towards the new children, our students, who observe us, judge us, and correct us.

There are two main thoughts that led me to write this little work, apart from my obvious duty and personal ambition. First and foremost, I wanted a book only for students. That is, to include the basics for the 4th-year student, what we teach them in the designated hours. Not to include rare syndromes, diseases that were common for us older ones but do not exist today (e.g. poliomyelitis). Secondly, I wanted a book from one author only. Homogeneous from beginning to end, from content to the last photograph, to convey the author's experience and spirit in every line. Of course, large textbooks, contemporary, detailed, with all the progress that has been made and the in-depth specialization, are written by many reputable experts. Such a work is in my intentions and has already begun.
I also wanted an introductory book, but not superficial, with adequacy but not detail, penetrating but not incomprehensible, readable but not shallow, practical and not theoretical. [...]
