I think buying two pieces and stacking them on top of each other is the only way if someone wants to have a child over 1 year old and doesn't want them to climb out or push it. It is stable, my 7-month-old baby stands and the gate does not give way as I had read in some comments. I had also read that the toys fall off from underneath, but I see that it leaves a 2-inch gap from the floor, so the toys would have to be very small to come out. It is a very good choice to prevent the baby from crawling all over the house with all that entails, but to be controlled. Also, the baby's space remains clean.
Edit: In the end, the gate gives way if it is placed on a marble, tile, etc. floor. On hardwood or laminate, it may be a little more stable. On carpet, it is perfect.
