PS5 Pro: Everything You Need to Know About the New Powerful PlayStation

Sony has unveiled - as expected - the PS5 Pro, a new version of its latest system that focuses on higher performance and better graphics, with a greater level of detail. The PS5 Pro is expected to be released on November 7 at €799.99 for the European market, and the console will come in the purchase package with a DualSense controller and the system itself. Inside, there will be a 2TB SSD, but something worth noting is that its version will be Digital Only, meaning it will not have a Blu-ray drive. The good news - on this level - is that interested parties will be able to install the Blu-ray drive of the PS5 that is already available for the PS5 Slim, so if they have already purchased it (or have a PS5 Slim with a Blu-ray drive) they will be able to use it with the PS5 Pro.

The new PlayStation 5 Pro offers a significant upgrade over its predecessor, with three major enhancements, such as the larger GPU, advanced Ray Tracing, and AI-Driven Upscaling.

The new console from Sony provides the option for higher framerates and higher quality graphics with smooth and stable 60FPS.

The presentation of the console was made by the architect of the PS5 and PS5 Pro, Mark Cerny, who spoke about the new larger GPU, the advanced ray tracing that will be supported, as well as the image upscaling mechanism that will be enhanced by artificial intelligence and will work on both new and existing games. Sony noted that the PS5 Pro has 67% more processing units and 28% faster memory and overall will offer 45% faster rendering. Lighting in games will be produced at double or even triple the speed of the current model and with the PS5 Pro comes the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, a graphics upscaling mechanism enhanced by AI that will offer a clearer image.

The console will also support PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can be supported in over 8500 compatible PS4 games and even improve their resolution. Something interesting is that the new console will even be able to enhance the visuals of PSVR2 titles, as stated by Mark Cerny in a website after the presentation.

As for the games that will be supported at the console's launch, they are Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered.

After the presentation, analysts mentioned that they expect PS5 Pro sales to be similar to those of the PS4 Pro, potentially reaching 13 million systems by 2029. It remains to be seen how Sony will handle having both PS5 consoles on the market simultaneously.
