My Friend, Kathleen Glasgow's Darkness

Most of you may already know the author from "The Broken Girl", but recently another book of hers was released that deserves attention.

"My Friend the Darkness" follows Tiger, who had a quiet and beautiful life with her mother. She didn't have a big family, a big house, or a lot of money. But she was happy. Until her mother suddenly dies, and she is left alone. Completely alone. Going from one foster family to another, believing that she will never experience happiness again in her life.

This is the second book by the author that I have read, and I am definitely satisfied! I have realized that she chooses to deal with heavy topics, such as loss in this case, and she analyzes them so well, completely immersing the reader in the protagonist's mind.

"Sometimes you are so hungry, so thirsty for something that will satisfy you, that you crave it for so long, but when you finally have it, it hurts to swallow it. It's not a remedy for what torments you. It may be exactly what keeps us sick."

At the same time, while her writing is very beautiful, it is not exhausting. On the contrary, the narration flows smoothly, creating images and intense emotions. I also believe that her books can be read by younger ages [around 17-18] if they are okay with trigger warnings, as they are very realistic and make you think.

"The world constantly asks, Do you need something? They say, it's awful. Or, it's in a better place, and that angers me, because what was the place that was with me? Horrible?"

This particular book touched me a lot, it made me sad and definitely moved me. I don't know if I can compare it to "Girl in Pieces" as I "felt" that one a bit more [and they deal with different topics], but this one was also exceptional. It described the stages of grief very realistically, and it was even more heartbreaking when you consider that the narration was from the perspective of a teenage girl who was left alone in life. Of course, I enjoyed it and would like to read more of her books.

It is quite heavy, but personally, I really like it and appreciate the fact that she bases them on her own experiences [directly or indirectly].

I definitely recommend it to someone who is looking for a book that deals with the theme of loss. It will definitely touch you.
