Underrated books that you should add to your list!

There are some books that are so beautiful, yet not many people know about them, or at least they don't have the hype they deserve.

I will tell you about some books that I loved and I believe should receive more attention!

My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologizes by Fredrick Backman from Kedros Publishing

Η Γιαγιά μου σας Χαιρετά και Ζητάει Συγγνώμη

Elsa is seven years old and doesn't look like any other girl her age. Her grandmother is seventy-seven years old and everyone considers her completely crazy. Everyone except Elsa, who is sure that her grandmother is a genius. Ready for anything to have fun or protect her granddaughter. Even to break into the zoo, shoot paintballs, or flirt with police officers. She is not only Elsa's best friend, but also her only friend.
At night, Elsa finds refuge in the stories her grandmother creates about the six imaginary kingdoms, where no one is obliged to behave normally.
All this suddenly stops when the grandmother dies. However, she has left behind the most exciting treasure hunt for Elsa: a pile of letters that she must deliver to their recipients, people with whom the grandmother had conflicts.
Thus begins Elsa's great adventure, through which she will discover the truth hidden behind her grandmother's fairy tales, a woman who truly resembled no one else.

A whimsical, comedic, touching, and disruptive novel that offers a different perspective on our everyday life, as well as the right of each individual to be and live as they choose.

I have mentioned Backman several times, but it will never be enough. He is one of the few authors who combines humor and emotion so beautifully in his books, making the reader cry and laugh at the same time.

This particular one features a little girl who, when she loses her grandmother, starts seeing the world differently.

Wonderful, definitely worth it, just like all of his books in my opinion!

"After the End" by Clare Mackintosh from Metaichmio Editions

Max and Pip are a bonded couple, but now they are facing the most important decision of their lives - and they don't agree. The consequences of a terrifyingly difficult choice threaten to destroy them; nothing will ever be the same again. However, after the end, anything can happen... A story that branches into two versions. A story about life decisions and the weight of responsibility.

A quite heavy but at the same time exceptional book that talks about the loss of a child, and about the choices we make in our lives.

"In the past few months, we learned that on one side of the seesaw is hope and on the other is despair. One quickly goes up while the other goes down."

"After the End" is one of those books that when you close it, you feel full of thoughts. It's not just that it has touched you, saddened you, and given you hope. It's also the fact that it puts you in the position to think about what you would do and makes you reflect on various social issues. We are talking about a family portrait, original and full of emotion.

I would say to look at the trigger warnings before choosing it as it is a sad and difficult subject, but I believe it's worth 100% and unfortunately it doesn't belong to the hyped books!

Munich, September 1931. Detective Zigfried Zaouer is urgently called to an aristocratic apartment, where twenty-two-year-old Angela Raubal, also known as Geli, was found dead. Next to her is a gun: everything indicates that it is a suicide. However, Geli was not an ordinary girl, and the apartment where she lived and died, as well as the gun that fired the fatal bullet, do not belong to an ordinary man: her legal guardian was "Uncle Alph," known throughout Germany as Adolf Hitler. Zaouer immediately begins his investigations, caught between those who want to close the case within a few hours and those who ask him to thoroughly examine the case and discover the truth, whatever it may be. As soon as Hitler learns the news, he hastily returns from Nuremberg and confirms that he has an airtight alibi. And yet, Zaouer doubts and does not stop investigating. The truths he will uncover are so dark that they shake his professional and personal certainties, and they will lead him to decisions that could even determine the future of democracy in Germany.

If you love history but also have a passion for detective novels, I have the perfect choice for you.

A detective in Munich in 1931 takes on a case that turns out to be more complex than he imagined because

(1) The victim was Hitler's niece and died in his house

(2) Everyone wants to say it was suicide

Real people and events, intertwined with elements of fiction, create a book that is as original as it is objectively outstanding.

You should read it!

"Nothing is Lost" by Cloe Mendi from Polis Publications

Τίποτε δεν Χάνεται
14,40 €

A small town like so many others... and then, one day, an abuse of power... a police check that takes a bad turn... His name was Said. He was fifteen years old. And he is dead.

I, Matia, eleven years old, did not know him. But afterwards, I saw hatred surrounding me, sorrow and madness devouring my family until its dissolution...

Later, while strange people resembling police officers were circling around me, I recognized Said's face painted on the walls of the neighborhood. Graffiti with red paint and slogans demanding justice!

And at that moment, the people of the neighborhood, the mothers, the sisters, the friends, will join the dance to break the silence.

So I, Matia, an eleven-year-old boy, gather the pieces of the puzzle, trying to understand and see that, even dead, the past is never truly buried!

And no one said that this is fair...

One of my top favorite books that, damn it, only 2 of my acquaintances have read [and I have many acquaintances who read, that's why I'm saying it!]

We're talking about an exceptional social novel, narrated by an eleven-year-old boy, that touches on the subjects of mental illnesses, family, justice, violence, and many more.

It's not long in length, and I consider it appeals to various readers. Give it a chance and it won't disappoint you.
